This weekend marked the New Moon in Leo, which according to astrologer Srna Mathews ‘reminds us that joy is not a luxury — it’s a lifeline … the path ahead may feel uncertain, but this lunation invites us to stay buoyant — not by ignoring what’s hard, but by trusting what is true within us. Honour your art, whatever it may be. A poem, a painting, a scribble in your notes — what you see in your mind’s eye, swirling above the sky. Let joy be a quiet rebellion.’

As chance would have it, this new moon also coincided with the opening of the Lion’s Gate Portal. A yearly occurrence that Moon Omens describes as ‘a celestial gateway of awakening that peaks on 8/8. It’s the energetic threshold where time bends … intuition sharpens … and timelines shift.’

I am a Leo rising, so perhaps I am particularly sensitive to these recent cosmic shifts. But, whatever the reason, the energy has felt especially potent of late. Charged with magic.

Which is why I have been drawn to researching all things mystical and magical this month. To goddesses in art and literature as well as mythical beings in film and poetry. To the use of pathetic fallacy and the spiritual offerings that we make through time and space. And to observing the night sky and the passing of the seasons. An everyday sort of magic, but magic nonetheless.
